"Anybody with artistic ambitions is always trying to reconnect with the way they saw things as a child."

Projections and Immersive Media Projects
Projection Designer for Devised Project "Terminal"
Role: Projection Designer
I designed projections for the immersive experience of "Terminal" in UMKC. It was a mixture of 3 projectors, 4 monitors, 3 computers, 1 projector screen, 4 mirrors, 1 TV, and 1 camera. The idea of an immersive flight is that after some turbulence and a possible crash, the audience experiences 3 different stories of the flight attendants surrounded by projections in front, back, left, right, ceiling, and the floor. The questions of where we are going after we die, and what is the purpose of our life, were a part of the experience for the audience to answer.

Programmed visuals for a performance by Ryan Belock, directed by Collin Vorbeck.
First professional mapping using three projectors to create an immersive environment. Created stages in QLab, managed cue order, fades, and masks. Blended videos and images for live projection. Applied film knowledge to theater setups, boosting confidence in professional environments.
Tools: QLab, Premiere, After Effects

Cast:
Joy and “The Angler”… Juan David Martinez Zayas
Lilly … Rocio Chamorro
Director’s Notes:
An adaptation of Kyle Smith’s Paralysis, this psychological horror drama
begins with an interactive Instagram profile (at @the_redroom_diary)
that documents the story of Joy, a thirty-something old man trapped in
his apartment, battling sleep paralysis, agony, and the ominous presence
of The Angler. As boundaries between dreams and reality become loose,
nightmares spill into Joy’s waking life, forcing him to have no choice but to
face his nightmares and make a life-defining choice–resist or surrender to
the darkness. The play culminates in the Inge Theatre at Murphy Hall with a
performance that incorporates digital video elements. Created in Lawrence,
KS, U.S.A.
The next videos are an entire summary of all the content I had created trough the semester between shows and content for class. The experience was super immersive from the moment you step into the place. It had 2 projectors, Optoma was pointing to the wall and a micro projector to a model house I made for a paper show "Heidi Chronicles". "Heidi Chronicles": I worked as a video technician programming visuals created by Ryan Belock for a performance in the Blackbox Theatre, directed by Collin Vorbeck. This was my first time doing professional mapping, using three projectors—front, right, and left—to make an immersive environment. I learned how to create stages in QLab, manage cue order, use fades and masks, and blend videos and images. Witnessing the outcome live was incredible and really helped me connect what I know from film to theatre. Seeing how much I have grown in a semester gave me more confidence working with projections and in professional setups.

The next videos are compositions that were projected onto three rectangular panels: a larger central one at the back and two smaller ones on either side, with the central surface equal in size to the two side ones combined. The projection was completed using the program Isadora.
